Our Team: Louis R. Cohan, Founder
Louis R. Cohan has been a trial lawyer for more than 20 years. He has earned the highest rating awarded by Martindale Hubbell, based on evaluations of attorneys and Judges, an AV rating, and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, based on his extensive jury trial experience.
Cohan founded Cohan Law Group, L.L.C. in 2011 following 18 years with Weinstock & Scavo, P.C. Cohan’s experience includes litigation of more than $100 million dollars in claims in both state and federal courts in Georgia and around the U.S., arbitrations, more than 50 trials, and at least 100 mediations. Cohan has argued appellate cases before the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Cohan’s experience includes breach of contract, securities litigation, fraud, injunctive relief, punitive damages, insurance coverage disputes and bad faith claims, employment (discrimination, overtime, employee dishonesty, non-compete, non-solicitation, non-disclosure and confidentiality), trade secrets, real estate (development disputes, purchase and sale agreements, brokerage agreements, commission disputes, listing agreements, land use, restrictive covenants, condominium association, homeowners’ association and zoning), construction and construction defects, banking (debtor and creditor disputes), commercial collection and civil rights litigation.
Louis Cohan earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Emory School of Law in 1991, where he was awarded the Douglas L. Peabody Best Oralist award. Prior to pursuing a career in law, Cohan worked as a stockbroker at Bear Stearns, and founded and sold a business. This real world, business ownership, experience continues to prove invaluable in understanding and addressing the needs of clients.
Cohan was selected in 2010 as one of Georgia Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite. He is a member of MENSA, and serves on the Boards of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Foundation, Atlanta Israel Bonds and the Anti-Defamation League, where Cohan is co-chair of a committee that investigates discrimination and hate crimes and coordinates with local law enforcement.
